First Post-Retirement Update

I have been retired since April 16, 2021 and am enjoying it. I haven't seen Andy or his girls in months so look forward to seeing them on Thanksgiving day next week. I am keeping Bryson for Megan next Monday night so Kenneth & Sally can head to Florida to see Kenny's kids (Kenny is overseas again).

Keeping Destiny

This has to be the shortest 10 yr old blog on the internet!

I'm supposed to keep Destiny (now almost 17!) this weekend so I can get her back and forth to work while her family is out of town.

I went with Jennifer & Tim and the girls to the Memphis zoo last Friday and we had a good time.

Hot Day in Tennessee

It's been another hot day and I mowed the yard in 98 degree temps! Patience has finished her last week at her dad's so we will have her back home at last. It's been rough not having her around the past two months.

New Beginnings

A lot has happened since my last post. Jennifer has remarried and both she and my daughter-in-law Holly are pregnant! Holly is due in December on Jennifer's birthday and Jennifer is due in January.

Greg has a rental house in Lexington and is working at Auto Zone again. His girlfriend is also pregnant so Patience is going to have two siblings!

Another Update

It's going to be very warm today as it hits the lower 90s!

Patience is doing pretty well in kindergarten and enjoys it. She is struggling with reading but with the help of Jennifer and the rest of us she will do OK.

Greg is now living in Lexington with his uncle since his job loss. I can't believe how quickly things changed for him, and indirectly, the rest of us.

We are going with Patience & Ellie (and their families) to the "Kid Fest" at the fairgrounds.

Time Flies

I saw that Jennifer put a link to her badly neglected blog on Facebook so decided to update mine as well.

Her divorce from Greg became final on Thursday so my daughter is (for a while) a single woman again. Patience is spending the summer in Memphis with her dad and I miss her almost as much as Jennifer does. I always hoped my kids and grand-kids would have 'fairy tale' lives but there really is no such thing; I only hope her new life with Tim continues to make her happy and add some much-needed stability and family to Patience's life.

I am very proud of Jennifer and Tim; they have worked VERY hard at my old place cleaning and fixing and planting flower beds.

Patience graduated preschool and made us all proud.

Another Year

I see I have allowed over a year to go by without a post! We moved into our new house last March and Jennifer is renting our old place 1-1/2 miles away. Ellie & Patience have grown so much the past year it is hard to believe. Patience starts school this fall; my baby is growing so fast.

My Girls are Coming Home!!!

They are quitting their jobs in Illinois and will be returning to move in with me (ouch!) next Monday. They will stay here until they have time to get settled.

Patience Here

Patience & Jennifer arrived Monday night and it has been a very busy week.

Patience & Ellie have been together twice and have had a ball together. I am very tired as I am not used to having kids in the house all the time...but it is a good exhaustion!

Jennifer & Patience Coming Home

Jennifer quit her job and was planning on coming home today with Patience so she could job hunt. It looks as if those plans have been delayed and I am really saddened by that news. I miss my two girls so bad!.

Another Update - Christmas

Well, one post ever six months...I have got to do better then this!

Ellie is walking now (or I should say running!) and I am blessed to see her every weekend.

Patience is coming back from Illinois with her mom today so we will be having our Christmas with them this weekend. I miss them so much; I really wish they could get back to this area.

Granddaughter #2 Getting Prettier Every Day

Ellie is growing and getting cuter every day; thank goodness she favors her mom instead of her granddad! I have been really busy helping Jennifer get ready to move so haven't seen her as much as I want to. Hopefully it will get better with time.

X My SECOND Granddaughter Ellie Is Born!

My son is now a father! Just after lunch today my 2nd granddaughter Ellie was born and she is beautiful! I am so proud of Andy & Holly and know they will make wonderful parents. It's hard to believe my little boy is a DADDY!! Mixed with the joy of this is the sadness of knowing that Jennifer & Greg will soon be moving Patience up north to Greg's hometown which is about 8 hrs away by car. It's going to be very difficult not having my family together.

Another Long-Due Update

It's been a while but a lot has been happening.

Patience has gone through a couple of bouts with being sick and I even took off work last Wednesday to stay with her so her mom & dad wouldn't miss too much work.

She will be a year old in about a month and I'm excited about her birthday party. I hope it is warm enough that they can have it outdoors!

This was the first time Patience has seen him but she took up with him really well. He brought her a lot of nice gifts. We had our Christmas with her on 12/26 and she has become a pro at tearing packages open!I will be adding to this blog as we found out that Holly is pregnant with my 2nd grandchild!!!!

Busy Day With Patience

Terry came over yesterday and I took her to the sleep clinic for a study at 9:00 pm. I had to pick her up at 5:00 am this morning then Jennifer brought Patience at 5:35 am. I played with her for a bit then woke Caron up so I could go to work, where I stayed until 10:00. I drove to Lowes for some stuff for Randy's new addition then went home to find Patience grinning at me as I walked in the door like a kid in trouble! We went to eat then drove out to Mom's where I spent about 1 1/2 hours working on the wiring in Randy's house. Patience was good all day; she never complained or fussed! I held her in my lap at mom's and she fell asleep in my lap. We left there at 3:00 and took her to meet Jennifer & Greg as they got off work at 3:30.

Busy Weekend

Jennifer & Greg had to work all day Saturday so Caron & I got to keep Patience from 5:30 am until 4:00 pm. She played and ate then went to sleep in my lap at 8:30 am and slept until almost 11:30 am.Jennifer called me early and told me that their battery had died at work! I drove out there at 11:00 to take some hotdog buns to Greg for a dinner they were having and Jennifer met me out front. I told them I would buy them a battery and bring it at 4:00 when they got off.Caron and I went and ate lunch then we drove to Auto Zone where I bought a battery. We went to Mom's for an hour and a half then went back to meet Jennifer & Greg when they got off work. It turned out that I had bought the wrong type battery so we all drove to Auto Zone in my van so we could get the correct one. My error turned out to be a good thing; we found out that his old battery was under warrenty and he got over $30.00 back on it! The battery I bought incorrectly was $80.00; the one he bought was only about $50.00, minus the $30.00 so he only spent about $20.00!!!At 6:30 pm Stacy brought her 3 girls over and I watched them until about 10:00 pm so She and Brian could Christmas shop without them being with them. It was a great, but tiring, day.Sunday we met Andy & Holly for lunch at O'Charlie's and had a couple of hours of visiting each other. I wish I could see them more often!

Messy Eater

From 'Queen Of The Daycare' to 'Slob Of The Dining Room' this child covers the gambit! She might be messy but at least she knows how to enjoy a good jar of baby food! This was taken yesterday when we went for a visit. She couldn't stop staring at me long enough to eat!

Her First Award

Her first award! Patience was made 'baby of the week' at her daycare! She wanted to make an acceptance speech but she only knows a couple of words, and neither of them sound like English!

Patience Sick

My loving granddaughter has been sick a couple of days.I went this afternoon and stayed a few hours so Jennifer could get some 'down time' as she is also under the weather. She missed 2 days of work.I also missed yesterday & today for sickness but the doctor said I was not contagious so it was safe to be around Patience. I just hope I don't get what they have! The photo above was taken a couple of weeks ago. My scanner 'died' so I had to take a photo of it with my digital camera then crop it down. This resulted in a bit of focus and color loss but that's the best I can do for now.I have been up since 2:30 am and am VERY sleepy right now!

First Family Photos Taken

We got to see my sweet baby yesterday and as always she was all smiles! She is trying to sit up on her own and I look forward to her becoming more mobile and doing more for herself. Jennifer took her and 'daddy' to WalMart where they had photos taken. She was dressed so cute in her little bonnet (it was an Easter outfit that she was already outgrowing!!!)I am going with Jennifer to take her for shots next Monday afternoon (3rd set of shots). Hopefully it won't be as bad on Patience as her last shots. Holly took her the last time and she had a really rough time.I leave for Indy again in a couple of weeks and dread it!!

Overdue Update

I don't know why I bother to created a blog that I don't keep up to date! Patience is over a year old now and growing like a weed! When she sees me she can't wait until I pick her up; she will try to jump out of her mom's arms to get to me! I recently spent 3 weeks in China and missed seeing my angel so much I wanted to cry! In a couple of months her new girl cousin will be born so I'll have even less time to enter stuff into this blog. What's a grandpa to do???

Update On My Angel

A lot has gone on since Christmas. The weather (and working) has prevented us from seeing her as much as we like but soon that will change as it gets warmer.I took her one day to see Stacy's 3 girls and we had a good day together. She loves to be around other kids and is well behaved. She is learning to crawl but so far it is all in the reverse direction!

Another LATE Update!

I haven't written anything about my angel in a while.

She is at 18 lbs. and is the happiest baby's I have ever seen. I try to see her at least twice week and wish it was more often. I can't wait until Christmas; I am planning on getting her for a couple of days while I am off.

X Mom goes back to work.

It has been hectic the past 2 months! Jennifer went back to work so grandpa/grandma are watching our little angel every afternoon. Starting tomorrow 'daddy' works same place/hours as 'mommy' so we will have her until almost 3:00 a.m., 4 days a week! I dread the 2:00 feedings!

X Sick Grandmother

She's Growing Like A Weed It has been pretty hectic as I realize that I at last have a real grandchild! She has grown an inch and is very active and alert. I have seen her almost every one of her 18 days of post-birth existance and have loved every minute of it. Grandma and I stayed with her from 1:00 yesterday afternoon until 1:00 am this morning as her parents were at the hospital with her other grandmother who is very sick with cancer. We are going to have her again later today as they return to the hospital. Despite her birth, I am still spending tons of time with my three lovely great-nieces (my 'first' granddaughters!) as Destiny play's t-ball. Life is really good right now, except for Patience's grandmother's sickness.

X My First Granddaughter is born!

My Granddaughter Is Born! I have created this blog in honor of my Granddaughter, Patience Romain Alter who was born to my daughter on Wednesday, April 27, 2005. She is my first granddaughter thus I will have to do a lot of special things for her until she has siblings or cousins to help divert my overwhelming attention. Her birth was very smooth as her mom had textbook-perfect pregnancy and deliver with very few problems. I was at her side through all the good parts and the bad parts of labor and sadly missed the actual miracle of her arrival.I will strive to use this posting place to record her development and my thoughts and dreams as they relate to her and her future.
